What is coaching?
Coaching is the process of giving an individual, a group, or a couple instruction, accountability, and support to reach their stated goals more efficiently than they could themselves. This requires the individuals or groups being coached to be trained and educated in important skills they may not already have to help them reach their specific goals.
A coach may have a certain niche they focus on, such as relationships, spirituality, mental health, finances, or some other area that people desire help with. Another task of a coach is to help you develop a plan to reach your goals and provide motivation to get there. Coaches give you accountability and help you stay on track, pushing you to reach your goals on time. When you get coaching, you are seeking someone who has the skills you need, that can impart their knowledge and wisdom to you in a one-on-one setting, instead of trying to figure things out on your own.
How is therapy and coaching different?
Coaching and therapy are similar in some ways and different in others. Coaching tends to focus more on the present and the future. Therapy focuses on the past through to the future. However, coaching tends to be focused on quickly helping you meet goals and milestones. Coaches tend to help you break things down into small attainable steps. Therapists can do this too.
The main difference is that Coaches don’t have licenses to help with mental health concerns. Counselors have been trained to help those who are mentally ill with healing and understanding their hurt and pain. Once they have helped a client manage their mental illness, then they might work more on goals that are attainable but aren’t mental health-related.
Coaches stay away from mental health and the past. They may hear a story or listen to your past, but their focus is to put that aside and seek ways for you to meet goals to make your life what you want it to be.
Do you offer coaching, even though you are an LMFT?
Yes, I offer coaching. I just ask that my coaching clients understand that therapy and coaching are different. I also want you to know that I separate these 2 services. My counseling services are offered through Legacy Marriage Resources. My coaching services are a service offered through Brandon Coussens LMFT LLC. So, please do not try to schedule a coaching appointment through our counseling link. Also, counseling is usually provided on a session-by-session basis. With coaching, I offer packages and there is more flexibility in contact.
How do I find out about your packages and how to attain coaching?
I am glad you asked! You can go HERE to find out more about my coaching packages. Please remember: Coaching is not suited for mental health concerns. If you are having a mental health issue that you are trying to resolve, I encourage you to go to Legacy Marriage Resources, LLC, and schedule an appointment.
Final comments on coaching…
I would love to be your coach. Because my full-time position is as the owner and a therapist at Legacy Marriage Resources LLC, I only see a limited number of coaching clients at this time. The areas that I mainly work in are Christian Coaching, Marriage and Relationships, Parenting, Intimacy, Men, and Financial Coaching. If you have other concerns and are wondering if I can coach you in those areas, please email me.
