9 Reasons for God’s Design of Marriage: Marriage is God’s original design for procreation
I am going to try to make this simple. I think everyone already know that God created us to procreate, right?
Okay…Thanks for reading…
Well if I ended it there, it would probably be enough. Maybe, though, you will find some truth and insights from continuing to read this post. Please keep reading!
What is Procreation?
Procreation is when a man and a woman create child together. Duh! Why is that important? Because it can’t be anything other than a man or a woman! Sounds simple, but our culture and society wants to make marriage more than just one man and one woman.
Marriage was created, so that couples (a man and a woman) would keep humanity alive. Procreation is literally how the human race remains on this earth.
However, animals don’t marry, do they? Is this a stupid question? I don’t think so. I am sure it can be an argument against marriage being the only way to procreate. I understand that procreation happens even when marriage does not. Yet, the original intent of God was for humans to marry, then have children.
Why don’t animals marry?
Animals obviously do not have the intellect and ability to create in all the ways humans do, but they do form “life mates” in many species. Research shows they even have families. Elephants, lions, and other animals all have family like structures. The difference is that animals have less analytical abilities and thus revert to pleasure and primal instincts.
Why are humans different?
Humans are species that have analytical abilities and reasoning abilities far beyond other species. God created us special. He created us “in His own image.” Genesis 1:27. We are like God. Animals did not get this privilege. They are just creatures that God created. We actually have the image of God imprinted on us. We are meant to reveal God through who we are.
Marriage is for procreation first
God literally said to Adam and Eve: “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:28 That seems clear to me. One of the first commands he gave to Adam and Eve was to procreate. This was right after he created them.
If this came first, then it would the primary reason God created them. It also was a command to multiply. They were not just supposed to sit there and enjoy there day and not have children. It was a mandate. There were other commands too, but this was the first. God wanted them to create more humans. Why? Because that is how the image of God grows. This is how God’s glory would spread. God would be multiplied by as many children as they could have.
Why Not Same Genders?
I am only asking this question to state the obvious. Two men can’t make a child. God is a God of order. He designed it to be a male and a female who conceive. Thus, only a man and a woman are permitted to marry, because this was the original intent.
I do not want to get into why 2 people of the same gender should not marry in this post. To me, we have covered it through this post. The fact that 2 people of the same gender cannot procreate just adds to the argument that 2 people of the same gender should not marry, but it is also God’s intent only for opposite genders to marry. To finish that argument, it is a contract that binds them together to create safety for their children. It’s the order and organization that matters. I will not go anymore into that at this time.
Children are important and parents are too
Without the unique differences in genders then a child does not get all the understand of who God is. The genders uniquely display God’s different characteristics. If a child is going to grow and learn how to be the person God has created him or her to be, they in essence need the influence of both genders.
This in no way says that someone cannot grow to become who they were meant to be if they don’t have a mother or father. Have two parents of the opposite gender is just the ideal and what God intended. There are many people who become who God intended them to be even without 1 of their parents. God can and will redeem!
Conclusion
God is amazing! His plans are perfect. I hope you are not offended by this post. I truly believe that a perfect God does not get things wrong. He has an intent, but also has the power to overcome mistakes.
It is important to know that procreation is one of the reasons for God’s intent in marriage. He desires to spread His love, His image and His ability to create through this means of procreation. God surely had an amazing plan!
